St. Augustine HS participates and excels in Summer 7v7 competitions

Over the Summer, the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets football team have been participating in several 7v7 competitions with area and regional high schools in the state of Florida.  Each week, the Yellow Jackets have hosted area schools in scrimmage play to include Creekside HS and Clay HS.  In addition to the home scrimmages, the Yellow Jackets have participated in the FHS7v7A North Florida Regional Qualifier tournament and the Jacksonville Jaguars 7on7 Passing Challenge.

The Yellow Jackets participated in the FHS7v7 Association North Florida Regional Qualifier, hosted by St. Augustine High School in June.  Led by Quarterback Austin Reed, the Yellow Jackets finished as the top seed over 15 regional teams in the initial “play-in” round.  With wins over Bradford County HS, Newberry HS, Florida HS (Tallahassee) and Yulee HS, the Jackets opened the tournament a perfect 4-0.  The Jackets continued their winning ways in the playoff rounds with a quarterfinal victory over District rival Nease HS, and a last play victory over county rival Bartram Trail HS.  In the finals against Columbia County HS, quarterback Austin Reed helped bring the Yellow Jackets back from being down two scores to take the lead 21-20.  Columbia County scored on the last play of the game to come back and win the tournament 26-21. The Jackets qualified for the FHS7v7A finals being held on July 15th.

The SAHS Yellow Jackets also participated in the Jacksonville Jaguars 7on7 Passing Challenge at Everback Field in June.  Led on offense by Quarterback Austin Reed, the Jackets went 3-0 in the “play in” round, with wins over Brunswick HS, Bartram Trail HS (27-7), and Baldwin HS.  After a 1st round bye in the playoffs, the Yellow Jackets lost in the quarterfinal round to Brunswick HS in a shoot out in the 5th overtime period 64-57.

St. Augustine High School Quarterback Austin Reed spends his Summer volunteering

As the students go back to school today in St. Johns County, marking the end of the Summer 2016, we would like to post an update on St. Augustine High School quarterback Austin Reed, who spend a lot of his Summer volunteering and giving back to his community.  During the week of July 18th – 22nd, Austin served as a camp instructor/coach for the St. Johns Police Athletic League youth football camp.  The football camp is an annual event with over 200 kids participating to prepare them for the start of the St. Johns PAL Fall football season.  The kids ages range from elementary school age up through the 8th grade.  In addition to his time spend instructing/coaching the kids at the camp, Austin select team of 7th and 8th graders won the week long flag football tournament under his coaching.

St. Augustine High School Jackets Lacrosse team enters the District playoff tournament

This Wednesday (April 8th), the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets boys lacrosse team enter into the District Playoffs with a 10-7 record (4-0 in District play) finishing as the 1st seed from the regular season District play.  It has been a fun season of lacrosse for Austin Reed, #27, and all of his Jackets teammates.  After experiencing a very strong 8-2 start to the season the Jackets have lost 5 of their last 7 games to finish the regular season at 10-7.  Many injuries to key players and a very strong schedule against teams like Ponte Vedra, Fleming Island, and Nease High School’s, all contributed to the tough end of the regular season.  The Jackets look forward to great play and enthusiasm to win a District title this week.

Austin Reed, #27, has enjoyed playing in the long-pole defensive backfield position and experiencing the fast pace, strength and skill level of the Varsity season.
