Austin Reed and his St. Augustine Yellow Jackets football teammates begin the 2014 regular season with a win.

On Thursday, September 4th, the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets Junior Varsity Football Team began their 2014 regular season play against their local school rivals the Pedro Menendez High School Falcons.  Playing under the lights at Pedro Menendez Stadium, the Jackets quickly got out to a 21 – 0 first quarter lead due to a strong running game, setting up passing opportunities for the offense.  The Jackets finished the first half 28 -0 as the dominating Jackets defense kept the Falcons offense to several negative and no yardage drives.

The St. Augustine Jackets JV Football Team continued their offensive and defensive dominance throughout the game, including a great special teams play when the Jackets defense blocked the Falcons punt attempt, and freshman linebacker Buddy Rowe scooped it up and returned the blocked punt for a Jackets touchdown.  The only score for the Falcons offense came on their last offensive play of the game with a long run for a touchdown as the 4th quarter ended in a 48 – 7 win for the Yellow Jackets JV team.

Austin Reed, Quarterback #7, started the game for the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets Football Team and completed 6 of his first 6 passes, including two touchdowns in the first half.  He finished the game 8 – 10 passing, 124 yards, 3 touchdowns – 0 interceptions.  Austin’s longest pass of the game was a 32 yard pass that went for a touchdown to receiver Varius Woodard.  Austin spread the ball around in the game completing passes to 4 other receivers including: Tyrek Russ, Devin Gray, Emerson Kabus, and Daniel Peterson.  The Jackets start the season 1-0.
