Austin Reed excels off the playing field for the National Junior Honor Society
This past week, Austin Reed displayed leadership and success off the playing field by participating in the Sebastian Middle School National Junior Honor Society’s 2013 new member induction ceremony held at the school. Being a returning Honor Society member for his 8th grade year, Austin presented an essay on Scholarship to the 11 new inductees. Holding a perfect 4.0 GPA this semester and carrying an “A” average in the school’s honors program through his 3rd year at the school, Austin’s has displayed leadership at the school as an excellent scholar and scholar athlete with his youth sports programs. The Sebastian Middle School Eagles finish the year 7 – 1 against Gamble Rodgers
On Thursday, October 24th, the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team finished off their regular season 7 – 1 against their local rivals The Gamble Rodgers Middle School Stingrays in a 32 – 6 win in a game that featured limited play by many of the Eagles regular starters. Already clinching the #2 position in the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association (SJMSAA) standings, the Eagles played a very conservatively called game and gave many non-starters the opportunity to get valuable game play experience. Everyone shared time on the field and enjoyed the seventh win of the season heading into the playoffs as the #2 seeded team to play the #3 seeded Landrum Middle School Lions on Wednesday, October 30th at 5:00 p.m. at Plantation Park in Jullington Creek.
Austin Reed, #7, played a very conservative game at quarterback completing only two passes (1 for 3 yards for a 2 point – extra point and one for a 40 yard touchdown pass) for 43 yards during the 1 1/2 quarters of football he played. On defense he had a terrific game during his limited time recording 3 tackles at middle linebacker. The following videos feature Austins 40 yard touchdown pass and a nice tackle he made on defense.
Austin Reed and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team beat rivals Pacetti Bay Middle School
It took four years and about six tries, but on Thursday, October 17th, Quarterback Austin Reed, #7, and his Sebastian Middle School Eagles football teammates beat another cross town rival, the Pacetti Bay Middle School Wildcats, in a wild game that wasn’t decided until the last play. Leading 22 – 12 in the 4th quarter, the Eagles had a critical turnover that gave the ball to the Wildcats at their own 25 yard line. They took advantage of this opportunity to drive the length of the field and score a touchdown and make the two conversion to make the game 22 – 20. After the Eagles were forced to punt on their next drive, Pacetti Bay drove the length of the field again only to be held at the 10 yard line where the quarterback fumbled the ball on the snap and it was recovered by the Eagles with time expiring.
The Sebastian Middle School Eagles played an unusually conservative offensive game that showed in the limited 8 attempts that quarterback Austin Reed, #7, made. He completed 4 of the attempts for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns (115.6 rating). Austin also played middle linebacker on defense recording several tackles. With the win, the Eagles improved to 6 – 1 on the season and locked up 2nd place in the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association conference going into the playoffs. Austin Reed, #7, and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team improve to 5 – 1.
Last Wednesday, Austin Reed, #7, and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team traveled to Plantation Park in Fruit Cove to play the Fruit Cove Middle School Flyers football team in a battle for second place in the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association (SJMSAA) standings. Playing on a rare Wednesday scheduled day, the Eagles came in ready as they scored the first touchdown of the game, followed by a two point conversion to take the lead (8 – 0). The Eagles continued their lead in the game to go on to win by a score of 22 – 13 to improve to 5 – 1 on the season.
At quarterback, Austin Reed, #7, played well during the game going 7 – 16 passing for 125 yards and two touchdowns, with many missed opportunities from the Sebastian receivers during the game. At linebacker, Austin recorded 5 tackles to assist a stingy defense that only allowed two touchdowns to a very explosive Fruit Cove Flyers offense.
The following videos features Austin completing a 45 yard touchdown to his wide receiver while playing quarterback, and a nice open field tackle on a back during a middle screen pass from Fruit Cove while he was playing middle linebacker.
Austin Reed, #7, and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles improve to 4 – 1 with win over Landrum Middle School
Last Thursday (10/3), quarterback Austin Reed, #7, and his Sebastian Middle School Eagles Football teammates earned a great victory over a very strong SJMSAA (St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association) football team in the Landrum Middle School Lions. The game feature some of the most physical play of the season for both teams that resulted in three lead changes during the defensive battle. The final lead change came in the 4th quarter with Sebastian down 15 – 8, when quarterback Austin Reed threw a 30 yard touchdown pass to his wide receiver and then the offense converted on a two point attempt to move ahead by 1 point (16 – 15). The Lions had a chance with one last play at the end of the game when they completed a short pass that the receiver ran down to the Sebastian 2 yard line as time expired, giving the Sebastian Middle School Eagles the 16 – 15 win and improving their record to 4 – 1 on the season.
Austin Reed, #7, had a good game at quarterback completing 3 for 6 passes for 135 yards, 2 TD’s/1 Int (95.83 rating). Austin also recorded several tackles for the defense playing Middle Linebacker on a starting defense that has now given up an average of 1 touchdown per game. The next game is schedule on Wednesday, October 9th at 5:00 p.m. on the artificial turf field at Plantation Park in Fruit Cove, FL against the Fruit Cove Flyers football team.
Austin Reed, #7, plays a smart game to help the Sebastian Middle School Eagles beat the Murray Middle School Bulldogs
For the second time this season, Austin Reed, #7, and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team beat their cross town rivals the Murray Middle School Bulldogs football team. This time by a score of 34 – 6 to improve to 3 – 1 on the season and putting Sebastian into a three way tie for 2nd place in the County. Playing an efficient game at quarterback, Austin Reed, #7, went 5 – 10 passing for 51 yard, 2 TD’s and 1 INT. There were several highlights with the passing game during the game, with a couple featured in the attached videos, and one pass that was dropped that could have resulted in a 65 yard touchdown. The offense pretty much dominated the line of scrimmage and total yards for the game resulting in a productive day for all who got a chance to run the ball.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Eagles dominated allowing only one touchdown coming on a blown coverage by the defensive secondary resulting in a 70 yard touchdown pass for Murray. Austin played well recording 5 tackles during the game and continued his leadership as defensive captain and play caller.
The next game for the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team is Thursday, October 3rd against the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association power the Landrum Middle School Lions football team from Ponte Vedra Beach. The game is being held at Joe Pomar Park located off Masters Drive in St. Augustine.
