Quarterback Austin Reed is selected to the 2013 SJMSAA All County Football Team

Sebastian Middle School Eagles Quarterback Austin Reed, #7, has been selected to the 2013 St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association (SJMSAA) South All-County Football Team.  This is the second straight year Austin has been selected for this recognition as quarterback for the Sebastian Eagles football team.  During the 2013 football season, Austin helped lead the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team to a 7 – 1 regular season record, finishing as the #2 ranked team in St. Johns County, FL.  Other season accomplishments include school records in the following:

  • 7 regular season wins as quarterback (best by a starting QB),
  • 206 total points scored on the season (most points by team),
  • 804 total passing yards (most yardage thrown),
  • 13 passing touchdowns (most touchdowns thrown),
  • 13 touchdowns to 4 interceptions (highest TD/Int. ratio (3.25:1)

The SJMSAA 4th annual All Star game, featuring the All-County player selections for the North versus the South, will be played on Saturday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m. at Plantation Park in Jullington Creek, FL.  Unfortunately, Austin will not be able to participate as starting quarterback during the All Star game as he will miss play due to a broken thumb in his right throwing hand that occurred during the SJMSAA semi-final playoff game on October 30th.

A playoff loss ends the season for Austin Reed, #7, and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team

On Wednesday, October 30th, Austin Reed, #7, and his Sebastian Middle School Eagles (#2) football teammates played in the first round of the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association (SJMSAA) playoffs and lost against the Landrum Middle School Lions (#3).  Landrum spent no time in the game getting on the scoreboard from the first play from scrimmage using a trick play.  After the initial score, the Sebastian Eagles seemed to be playing catch up for most of the remainder of the game.  Though Sebastian was able to move the ball on offense and put together good scoring drives, it seemed the overpowering Landrum Lions answered on the scoreboard ever time they had to.  The game ended in a loss for the Sebastian Eagles 35 – 20 and an end to their season as the Landrum Lions advance to the Conference finals.

Playing at Quarterback and Middle Linebacker, Austin Reed, #7, played an exceptional game at quarterback completing 5 for 7 passing attempts for 85 yards and rushed for two touchdowns on the night.  He would have been perfect in the passing game, but a couple of big drops on accurate passes brought his completion numbers down.  Austin Reed, #7, also played an exceptional game at Middle Linebacker making several tackles during the game, including a game ending tackle when Austin fractured his right throwing hand early in the 4th quarter while tackling the Landrum running back at the line of scrimmage.

Austin’s injury will have him out for a short 4 – 6 weeks.  During this time will be adjusting his workouts and preparing his body for the long off season workouts needed to prepare himself for the upcoming High School football season at St. Augustine High School.  Please see the following videos from Wednesday nights game against the Landrum Middle School Lions football team.
