The St. Augustine Yellow Jackets JV football team win their 3rd in a row against the Bartram Trails Bears

On Thursday, September 18th, the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets Junior Varsity football team defeated the Bartram Trail Bears JV 12-6, in a very tough defensive game for both teams.  Controlling the ball for most of the first half of the game, the St. Augustine Jackets got the first touchdown on a short run by sophomore running back Martrell Story, #9.  The Jackets were without a kicker and had to try to convert extra points by running plays from scrimmage, instead kicking.  After missing the extra point play attempt, the Jackets led 6-0.  The Jackets continued the control of the ball in the second quarter and marched down the field with a strong running game led by Storey and Varius Woodard – #4, and a 22 yard pass from quarterback Austin Reed – #7, to Karim Brown – #8, to get the ball into scoring position inside the Bears 5 yard line.  Jackets quarterback Austin Reed – #7, hit his tight end on a pass running a bench route to increase the score to 12-0 to end the half.

The second half was dominated by both defenses after the Bartram Trail Bears established a time consuming opening drive in the third quarter and scored on a run to reduce the St. Augustine Jackets lead to 12-6.  The Jackets were unable to get any 2nd half points on offense, as the defense had to hold back the Bears offense on a late drive in the 4th quarter to win the game 12-6, and increase the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets JV record to 3-0 on the young season.  Quarterback Austin Reed – #7, completed 8 passes in the game for 85 yards and one touchdown.
