A great come from behind win improves the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets JV Football Team to 7-0

The seventh game for the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets Junior Varsity football team was the most dramatic of all of the games so far this year.  The game featured the undefeated, 6-0 Jackets, playing their long time rivals the Palatka High School Panthers football team, 4-2, at home in Brumley Stadium.  It didn’t take long for the Panthers to score on their first possession when their QB hit an open receiver down the left side for a 25 yard TD pass.  The Jackets countered with a 39 yard touchdown pass from Austin Reed, #7, to his receiver Karim Brown, #8, on a fade route down the sideline to take the lead 7-7.  The Panthers added two more touchdown runs of 75 yards and 53 yards on their next two drives to take the lead 20-7.  The Jackets soon after found the Panthers end zone on a touchdown run by fullback Martrell Storey, #9, after establishing a long, ball controlled series on offense.  The Panthers returned to the end zone before the first half on a 50 yard touchdown pass down the middle of the Jackets defense to go up 27-14 at the end of the first half.

The second half of the game started with another score by the Panthers, this time by the defense, when Jackets quarterback Austin Reed, #7, was hit by an untouched blitzing linebacker as he went to throw the ball, resulting in a Panthers interception return for a TD to increase their lead to 34-14.  Soon after, the Jackets got all aspects of their game going as the defense came alive to stop the Panthers on each drive.  The Jackets offense added two rushing touchdowns and special teams added another on a kickoff by Nick Lawler, #15, to tie the game late in the 4th quarter at 34-34.  The Jackets defense held the Panthers on their next drive to a punt attempt, which was blocked and returned into the Panthers end zone by Josh Peterson, #22, for the Jackets.  The Jackets held on to their lead to finish the game out 41-34 and improve their season record to 7-0.

St. Augustine quarterback Austin Reed, #7, finished his seventh start of the season completing 10 passes for 192 yards and one touchdown.  The final game for the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets JV football team is a road game Wednesday, October 22nd against the Creekside High School Knights football team.
