Super Region Two Player of the Year
Reed completed one of the most impressive seasons in program history in 2021. The Gulf South Conference Player of the Year passed for 3,418 yards, 38 touchdowns and had 16.4 yards per completion. The sophomore from St. Augustine, Florida ranks among the top eight nationally in nine of 11 quarterback categories. He is eighth in the NCAA with 310.7 passing yards per game, fourth in points responsible for per game (20.4) and fifth in Passing TD. He finished with six games over 300 yards passing and threw four touchdown passes seven times and had at least two in every game. He ended the year with a 22-3 career record as a starter.

Austin Reed Named GSC Offensive Player of the Week
Sophomore quarterback threw for 380 yards and improved to 14-1 as a starter
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UWF quarterback Austin Reed was named the Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after throwing for 380 yards and leading the top-ranked Argonauts to a 42-36 win over McNeese State over the weekend.
Reed, whose passing yards are tied for the sixth-most in a single game in program history, was 19-of-36 on the day with four touchdowns. The Argos finished with 466 yards of total offense on 56 plays for a school-record 8.3 yards per play.
The sophomore from St. Augustine, Florida had a passer rating of 172.56 and seven completions of 20 yards or more, including a 74-yarder to David Durden that is the second-longest play from scrimmage in UWF history. After one week of play, he ranks fourth in the country in passing yards and touchdowns, while his 20 yards per completion place him sixth.
This is Reed’s third weekly honor from the GSC after earning Freshman of the Week twice in 2019.
UWF (1-0) will return to action this Saturday, Sept. 11 when it plays host to Southwest Baptist (0-1) at Pen Air Field on- campus. The game will kickoff at 6 p.m. and be the first on-campus game in UWF history.
Freshman QB Austin Reed shatters records as West Florida wins Division II national title
UWF quarterback Austin Reed shattered the NCAA Division II national championship-game passing record in less than two quarters, blitzing the Mavericks for 523 passing yards and six touchdowns, both D2 championship game records.
“We just had to keep throwing it, they couldn’t stop it,” Reed said after the game. “Our guys kept making big plays out there and we were doing what we needed to do to keep moving.”

In the first half alone, Reed threw for 399 passing yards and five touchdowns, finding Randolph for 241 receiving yards and three scores in that span.

After being named the starting quarterback at the University of West Florida after the 1st game of the season, Austin Reed performed impressively for the 2019 regular season going 8-1 as a starter and throwing for 2,439 yards, with 24 TD passes and rushing for another 184 yards and 6 touchdowns. This performance helped Austin and his UWF teammates clinch a spot to the NCAA Division 2 playoffs and earned Austin the Gulf South Conference Offensive Freshman of the Year and 2nd Team All GSC Quarterback for the 2019 season. Austin Reed is a 6′ 2″, 230 lb. redshirt junior quarterback playing college football at Western Kentucky University as of Spring 2022. Prior to WKU, Austin played at the University of West Florida and led the Argos to a National Championship in 2019. Prior to playing for the Argonauts, Austin played HS football for the St. Augustine HS Yellow Jackets (FL) and earned both the Florida Class 6A – 1st team All State QB honors and the offensive player of the year in 2017, throwing for 3,000 yards, 34 TD’s and leading his team to an undefeated regular season and an appearance in the Class 6A final four. This led to a scholarship to play football at Division 1, Southern Illinois University for the Fall 2018/Spring 2019 season prior to transferring back to Florida to play football for the UWF.
