Austin Reed, #7, plays a smart game to help the Sebastian Middle School Eagles beat the Murray Middle School Bulldogs

For the second time this season, Austin Reed, #7, and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team beat their cross town rivals the Murray Middle School Bulldogs football team. This time by a score of 34 – 6 to improve to 3 – 1 on the season and putting Sebastian into a three way tie for 2nd place in the County.  Playing an efficient game at quarterback, Austin Reed, #7, went 5 – 10 passing for 51 yard, 2 TD’s and 1 INT.  There were several highlights with the passing game during the game, with a couple featured in the attached videos, and one pass that was dropped that could have resulted in a 65 yard touchdown.  The offense pretty much dominated the line of scrimmage and total yards for the game resulting in a productive day for all who got a chance to run the ball.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Eagles dominated allowing only one touchdown coming on a blown coverage by the defensive secondary resulting in a 70 yard touchdown pass for Murray.  Austin played well recording 5 tackles during the game and continued his leadership as defensive captain and play caller.

The next game for the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team is Thursday, October 3rd against the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association power the Landrum Middle School Lions football team from Ponte Vedra Beach.  The game is being held at Joe Pomar Park located off Masters Drive in St. Augustine.

Austin Reed and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles route Gamble Rodgers Middle School to improve to 2 – 1

The last game for Austin Reed, #7, and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team was held on September 12th against the Gamble Rodgers Middle School Stingrays football team at the football stadium at Pedro Menendez High School.  The Eagles proved too powerful against their cross town rivals winning by a score of 38 – 8 and improving their record to 2 – 1 on the season.  Sebastian dominated the game early as the Eagles scored on their first play of the game with a 50 yard run, and then four more times in the first half on a punt return, goal-line run, and two touchdown passes by quarterback Austin Reed, #7, for 45 yards and 20 yards.  Austin finished the game going 3 – 3 passing, 2 touchdowns, 72 yards (158.3 QB rating) in one half of football and sat at the QB position for the second half, playing middle linebacker only.

The Eagles had a rare bye-week this past week and are scheduled to play a second game on Thursday (September 26th) against the Murray Middle School Bulldogs football team at home at Joe Pomar Park at 6:00 p.m.  The game does not count against their regular season record since it is the second time the Sebastian Middle School Eagles have had to face the Murray Middle School Bulldogs during the season.

Austin Reed, #7, and the Sebastian Eagles defeat the defending champs Murray Bulldogs

On Thursday afternoon, September 5th, Austin Reed, quarterback #7, lead his Sebastian Middle School (St. Augustine) Eagles football team to a stunning first time victory over the two time defending St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association (SJMSAA) champions, the Murray Middle School Bulldogs football team 16 – 0.  The Bulldogs came into the game heavily favored as the two time SJMSAA defending champions and not having lost a game since the 2010 season.  The game was a well played game by both the offense and the defense of the Eagles as they dominated both the defensive and offensive line of scrimmage, out-gained the Bulldogs in rushing and passing, and did not turn the ball over one time to Murray’s two turnovers.

Austin Reed, #7, playing quarterback scored the first points of the game by connecting on a 28 yard touchdown pass to Kareem Brown towards the end of the first half (see video below).  During the scoring drive, Austin complete three straight passes for 46 yards and finished the game going 5 – 7 passing, 1 TD and 113 yards passing (153 QB rating) for his third consecutive game passing over 100 yards.

With the win over the Murray Bulldogs, the Eagles improve to 1 – 1 on the season.  Next up for the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team are the Gamble Rodgers Middle School Stingrays, another cross town rival who are looking for their first win against the Eagles.  The game will be played at the Pedro Menendez High School football stadium on Thursday, September 12th @ 5:00 p.m.

Game 1: Austin Reed and the Sebastian Eagles football team lose a close season opener to the Swiss Point Raiders.

The opening of the regular football season for the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association started with a game between the Sebastian Middle School Eagles and the Switzerland Point Raiders football teams.  The game ended in a 6 – 19 loss for the Eagles, but the game was a lot closer than the score shows.  The Raiders scored with a long opening drive to take a 6 – 0 lead.  The Eagles then drove the field and scored, only to have the touchdown called back for an alleged holding call, the drive then failed to produce a score.  Later in the second quarter, Quarterback Austin Reed, #7 for the Eagles, connected with his leading receiver Kareem Brown on a 70 yard touchdown pass to tie the score at 6 – 6.

The Eagles had a chance to take the lead in the third quarter when Austin Reed hit his slot receiver on the goal line for what appeared to be the go-ahead touchdown, but the ball came out of the receivers hands just prior to crossing the goal line.  Soon after, the Raiders drove the length of the field and scored to go ahead 6 – 13.  The Eagles final drive failed on the Raiders 15 yard line late in the 4th quarter.  The final score for the Raiders came against the back-ups for the Eagles who substituted the starters on the Raiders final drive.

Austin Reed, #7, played both quarterback and middle linebacker for the Sebastian Middle School Eagles throwing 6 completions on 11 passing attempts, for 120 yards.  On defense he recorded 3 solo tackles and shared many other tackles with his defensive teammates.

Summer conditioning ends as the Fall football season begins for the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team

The fall season for the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team begins on Thursday, August 1st, with all the other teams from the St. Johns County Middle School Athletic Association.  With the start of the season just days away, it’s time to put behind us all the off season training activity that Austin Reed put in for strength, skills and conditioning to enhance his game on offense and defense.  There were hours each week put in to strength training at the gym, weekly quarterback skills training with Coach Steve Harden from St. Augustine High School, and other speed, agility and conditioning training sessions each week of the Summer.

Below are two videos featuring Austin’s quarterback training with Coach Harden at Plantation Park in Fruit Cove, as well as a video from the Donovin Darius NFL Youth Combine held at Everbank Field in Jacksonville, FL.

With Spring football well in the past, Austin Reed looks forward to the Fall season…

The Spring Jamboree is long in the past as Austin has been preparing strongly during the off, Summer season.  Since we never gave a recap on the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association Spring Game for the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team, we would like to play a little catch up and feature a few plays in Sebastian’s close loss to the Pacetti Bay Middle School Wildcats football team.

Sebastian Middle School loss a close Spring game on Saturday, May 18th, by a score of 22 – 18.  Failure to convert on extra points and the inability to stop the Wildcats from reaching the end zone with less than one minute to play hurt Sebastian’s chances for the win.  Down by 4 points with less than 50 seconds to go, Austin Reed, Quarterback, drove the team, on three consecutive pass completions, down the field from their own 20 yard line to reach the Wildcats 15 yard line.  With one play left, the Eagles were unable to get off a final pass for a chance to win the game.

Featured below are a few of the notable plays for Austin Reed.  We have included two offensive plays where Austin completed two very well thrown balls during the game, as well as two defensive plays with Austin playing middle linebacker.  On one hit, Austin makes a ball jarring hit on a tight end releasing off  the line attempting to catch a well thrown ball.

Sebastian Middle School Eagles play in their annual Spring Jamboree today at Nease High School

It’s that time of year again when the many weeks of Spring football practice finalize into one Spring football jamboree.  For Austin Reed (#7) and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles, that game is being held today against the Pacetti Bay Wildcats at the Nease High School football stadium in St. Augustine.  With an entirely new look to the team, expect to see only 4 returning players from last year, which includes Austin who will be starting at Middle Linebacker and Quarterback for his second season in the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association (SJMSAA).  We look forward to a great game and to build on the momentum of the Spring season to get us ready for Fall football.  Stay tuned for highlights from the game.
