Off season quarterback training camp update for Austin Reed

During this past weekends QB and receiver training camp held at Plantation Park in St. Johns, FL, the participants had a great practice during the cold Sunday morning that included 4 quarterbacks (including Austin) and about 6 wide receivers.  During the practice, we had two special guests show up and meet the boys.  D.A Williams and Bobby Mitchell, both from St. Augustine came out and talk to the boys and posed for pictures.  D.A., a Florida 1st team All State athlete, who played corner back at St. Augustine High School will be playing football at Iowa State (Big 12) in the fall.  Bobby Mitchell, who played wide receiver at St. Augustine High School will be playing football at Florida Atlantic University (Conference USA) in the fall.

As a participating All Star, Austin Reed (#7) is schedule to play quarterback along with the starter from Pacetti Bay Middle School – Cole Davis.

Austin Reed helps lead Sebastian Middle School to a post season bowl win over Landrum Middle School

We are getting this Blog post out a little bit after the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association Bowl Games held this past weekend on November 10th when the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team played the Landrum Middle School Lions football team (second squad).  The final game of the season ended with a 22 – 8 victory for the Eagles (3 – 7) who dominated both sides of the ball most of the game.  The Lions only score occurred when the Eagles, leading 22- 0, respectfully allowed a special scoring play for a dedicated player on the Lions football team.

Notable plays were many.  However, we have included a couple of defensive tackles that Austin Reed made during the game, as well as a great throw and catch by Austin to his top receiver Andre Robinson who gained considerable yards after the catch.  There is also another touchdown run by Austin on the goal line with a Quarterback Sneak.  Austin finished the game on defense being involved with 10 tackles, one fumble recovery, and completed 1 – 2 passing at quarterback (not a big passing week).

Austin Reed and five of his teammates make the St. Johns County Football All Star Team

Austin Reed and five of his Sebastian Middle School Eagles teammates have been named All Stars for the 2012 St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association All County Football Team.  They will represent southern St. Johns County, along with all star players from Pacetti Bay Middle School, Murray Middle School and Gamble Rodgers Middle School, in a game against the Middle Schools from the northern part of the County (Fruit Cove Middle School, Landrum Middle School, Switzerland Point Middle School and Liberty Pines Academy) in an All Star match-up.  The game is scheduled for Saturday, November 17th, location TBD.

Sebastian Middle School loses to Landrum Middle School in a well fought game

We are catching up on the website for Austin Reed and his football play for the 2012 Sebastian Middle School Eagles football season.  On October 25th, the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team lost to the Landrum Middle School Lions in a game who’s score does not indicate how competitive the game really was.  The final of the game was 34 – 12 in favor of the Landrum Middle School Lions football team.  However, the Sebastian Middle School Eagles, led by Austin Reed (#7) at Quarterback and Middle Linebacker, played an excellent football game for all four quarters of football.

There is a lot more information to come on the season and will be posted soon.  Until then, the following videos are from the game against the Landrum Middle School Lions football team.   They feature Austin scoring on a quarterback sneak from the three yard line, Austin completing a pass to his halfback Andre Robinson for a 50 yard catch and run gain, and two great defensive plays that Austin made at Middle Linebacker while chasing down the Landrum offensive players.

Fruit Cove Middle School flexes their strength against the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team.

On Thursday, October 18th, Austin Reed (#7) and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team faced the second place, 6 – 1 Fruit Cove Middle School Flyers football team.  After the Flyers jumped out to a 7 – 0 lead in the first quarter, the Eagles played hard and did not allow another point until the middle of the third quarter.  The Flyers finally wore down the Eagles defense and added an additional three touchdowns to end the game with 26 points.  The Eagles refused to give up gaining a 5 yard touchdown run by Andre Robinson with time expiring in the game.  Austin’s two point conversion pass was dropped in the end zone after an elusive scramble and great throw to his wide receiver.  This play has been included in the following videos.  The final score of the game was 26 – 6.

Austin played quarterback, middle linebacker and special teams during the game against Fruit Cove Middle School.  There is also a video featuring a great blitz rush by Austin causing the quarterback for Fruit Cove to rush his pass and throw an interception to linebacker Sebastian Jones.  I have also included a video of one of the best crack-back blocks I have seen in youth football.  This occurred in the third quarter when running back Andre Robinson reversed the field and Thomas Adkinson (#77 – Red) assists the run blocking with a crack-back block and absolutely crushes #64 for Fruit Cove.  The next game for the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team is this Thursday, October 25th @ 4:30 p.m. at Landrum Middle School located in Ponte Vedra, FL.

The Pacetti Bay Middle School Wildcats football team take down Austin Reed and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles from St. Augustine

Well, this certainly wasn’t the result the coaching staff, Austin Reed (#7) and the rest of the players from the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team from St. Augustine, FL wanted following their game against the Pacetti Bay Wildcats football team.  The 34 – 0 loss dose not show the fight the Eagles put up against their cross county nemesis at Nease High School Stadium, the former home of Quarterback Tim Tebow.  Austin played quarterback, middle linebacker, and special teams during the game.

Highlights included in the following videos are a kickoff team coverage where Austin runs over the return blocker and runs down the field to make a tackle, a first down pass to Andre Robinson and a nice run to pick up a first down where Austin lines up at running back in a power formation.  Other strong performances in the game were provided by Martrell Storey, RB (#9), who gained significant yardage as running back and Terrance Lovett, OL/DL (#55) who had an exceptional game blocking at left offensive guard and anchoring the middle of the defensive line.  The next game is schedule for Thursday, October 18th against the Fruit Cove Middle School Flyers at Plantation Park in St. Johns, FL.

Sebastian Middle School loses a tough game to Buddy Taylor Middle School from Palm Coast, FL

Last Wednesday, October 3rd, Austin Reed and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles (St. Augustine, FL) lost a tough fought Homecoming game to the Buddy Taylor Eagles out of Palm Coast, FL 24 – 12.  Austin started Quarterback and Middle Linebacker for the game.  After receiving a hard hit to the under part of his elbow in the second quarter, Austin was knocked out of the game on offense, defense and special teams.  He returned to the game late in the third quarter on the defensive side of the ball at Middle Linebacker.  Quarterback Trevor Stevens stepped in to replace Austin on offense and did a great job under the pressure of the Buddy Taylor run and pass rush.

The next game is schedule on Thursday, October 11th against the wide open passing game of the Pacetti Bay Wildcats Middle School football team to be held at 5:00 p.m. @ the Nease High School Varsity Football Stadium located off Highway US 1.  Austin is scheduled to start at Middle Linebacker and Quarterback for this game.
