The Fall 2017 season begins for St. Augustine High School and senior QB Austin Reed, #14

The Fall football season kicked off in NE Florida on Monday July 31st, and like all teams, the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets football team took the field in anticipation to earn a 15th District Championship in the last 16 years.  Leading the Jackets offense this year will be senior quarterback, and third year varsity player Austin Reed #14. 

While regular season game play doesn’t begin until August 25th, the St. Augustine HS Jackets took the field on Saturday (8/12), scrimmaging Orange Park HS (Class 7A) in the annual North Florida Officials Association training at Oakleaf High School.  The format consisted of 45 minutes of game play, including kick-offs and extra points.  During the scrimmage, the starting offense for the Jackets scored on their first 4 drives, as the defense stepped up and kept the Raiders from scoring.  Quarterback Austin Reed connected for three touchdown passes on the first three drives (1 – Lonell Harris (#1), 2 – Karim Brown (#8)) and threw for over 160 yards in the game. Running back Fre’quan Sparrow (#21) added the final score on a 12 yard run to close out the scoring and give the Jackets a 28-0 win.  Next up for the Jackets is Clay High School in the annual Kickoff Classic preseason game at home on Friday, August 25th.

St. Augustine High School quarterback Austin Reed visits Columbia University football camp.

On Saturday, July 8th, St. Augustine High School senior quarterback Austin Reed (#14) attended the Columbia University Football Camp held in New York City at Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium.  The one day camp gave Austin the opportunity to meet and work with the Lions coaching staff and learn more about their Division I (FCS) football program that competes in the Ivy League.  Austin has received an offer to play football at Columbia University beginning in the 2018 season.

St. Augustine HS participates and excels in Summer 7v7 competitions

Over the Summer, the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets football team have been participating in several 7v7 competitions with area and regional high schools in the state of Florida.  Each week, the Yellow Jackets have hosted area schools in scrimmage play to include Creekside HS and Clay HS.  In addition to the home scrimmages, the Yellow Jackets have participated in the FHS7v7A North Florida Regional Qualifier tournament and the Jacksonville Jaguars 7on7 Passing Challenge.  

The Yellow Jackets participated in the FHS7v7 Association North Florida Regional Qualifier, hosted by St. Augustine High School in June.  Led by Quarterback Austin Reed, the Yellow Jackets finished as the top seed over 15 regional teams in the initial “play-in” round.  With wins over Bradford County HS, Newberry HS, Florida HS (Tallahassee) and Yulee HS, the Jackets opened the tournament a perfect 4-0.  The Jackets continued their winning ways in the playoff rounds with a quarterfinal victory over District rival Nease HS, and a last play victory over county rival Bartram Trail HS.  In the finals against Columbia County HS, quarterback Austin Reed helped bring the Yellow Jackets back from being down two scores to take the lead 21-20.  Columbia County scored on the last play of the game to come back and win the tournament 26-21. The Jackets qualified for the FHS7v7A finals being held on July 15th.

The SAHS Yellow Jackets also participated in the Jacksonville Jaguars 7on7 Passing Challenge at Everback Field in June.  Led on offense by Quarterback Austin Reed, the Jackets went 3-0 in the “play in” round, with wins over Brunswick HS, Bartram Trail HS (27-7), and Baldwin HS.  After a 1st round bye in the playoffs, the Yellow Jackets lost in the quarterfinal round to Brunswick HS in a shoot out in the 5th overtime period 64-57.

Quarterback Austin Reed leads St. Augustine HS over Bishop Kenny in the 2018 Spring Game

On Wednesday, May 17th, the St. Augustine High School varsity football team lined up against Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) in the annual Spring game held at home in Foots Brumley Stadium.  The game was scheduled to have the starting offense and defense of each team play each other in a regulation game format for the first half, followed by the reserves in the second half.

Being selected by his coaches as Captain and leading the offense for the Yellow Jackets was rising senior quarterback Austin Reed (#14).  During the game, Austin completed 17 passes on 23 attempts, finishing the first half of the game with 178 yards passing, 1 touchdown pass (to Matt Adams) and a 21-14 lead over the starting defense for Bishop Kenny.  At one point in the second quarter, Austin completed 12 straight pass attempts to finish off the half and his time in the game.  Wide receive Karim Brown finished the game with 4 passes for 70 yards including a 50 yard diving completion from Reed to get the ball down to the Bishop Kenny 2 yard line.

St. Augustine High School (FL) quarterback Austin Reed (2018) recently received an offer to play Division 1 college football from Columbia University in the Ivy League.  Austin is very honored and Blessed to have received this offer from this prestigious university.

St. Augustine High School quarterback Austin Reed receives invite to the Nike Football – The Opening Regional Camp

St. Augustine High School (FL) football quarterback Austin Reed (#14), class of 2018, recently received an invitation from the Nike Football – The Opening Regional Camp to be held in Orlando on Saturday, February 19th.  The Opening Regionals Camp is one of the most respected and well run camps in the country for High School football talent.  We look forward to the event and wish Austin the best of luck and skill.  You can follow Austin on Twitter @AReed365

 

The St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets football team finishes the 2016 season at 11-2:

The St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets Varsity Football Team finished the 2016 regular season at 9-1 (4-0), winning the District 4-6A title, and securing home field advantage throughout the playoffs.  During the playoffs, the Jackets earned a win in the first round of the Region 1-6A playoff tournament against the Niceville High School Eagles by a score of 35-28.  The Jackets then defeated the Crestview High School Bulldogs at home by a score of 41-14 in the Regional semi-final game.  It all came down to a home game against the Navarre High School Raiders for the Region 1-6A title to advance to the State Championship semi-final game.  Navarre got the upper edge and defeated the Jackets by a score of 28-10 to advance to the State Championship semi-final game and ending the Jackets season.

During the regular season the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets football team outscored their opponents 371-99, a point differential of 272 points in favor of the Jackets.  The Yellow Jackets finished as the Region 1-6A runner-up, with a #6 end of season ranking in the State of Florida according to MaxPreps.com.

St. Augustine High School Quarterback Austin Reed (#14) finished the season with a 60% completion percentage and a Quarterback Rating (QBR) of 118.  Austin, a class of 2018 – 6′ 2″ – 190 pound QB, will be working hard in the weight room and on the training field in the off season to prepare for the 2017 Spring and Fall seasons, and will continue to play Varsity Lacrosse for the Yellow Jackets throughout the Winter.

 

St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets football team finish the season 9-1 heading into the playoffs:

On Friday night (11/4) the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets Varsity Football Team wrapped up the 2016 regular season with a win over the Palatka High School Panthers by a score of 31-17 in the 97th meeting between the two teams and the annual Senior Night game for each program.  The win by the Yellow Jackets improved their regular season record to 9-1 (4-0 in District 4-6A) heading into the playoffs.

The St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets clinched first place in District 4-6A after defeating Middleburg High School 44-18 in week 9 to earn a home Regional quarterfinal playoff game against the Niceville Eagles on Friday, November 11th.  Niceville finished second in District 3-6A after losing a close game 21-27 in week 9 to Crestview HS.

St. Augustine High School Quarterback Austin Reed (#14) finished the final game of the season against the Palatka High School Panthers completing 5 of 7 passes for 97 yards.  As a Junior (Class 2018) standing at 6′ 2″ – 185 pounds, Austin completed 60%  of his passes on the year with zero interceptions to earn a 118.00 Quarterback Rating (QBR).

The St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets are on a roll into the playoffs:

It’s been quite a while since we’ve updated our Blog on the 2016 season for the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets varsity football team and junior quarterback Austin Reed, #14.  But as we head into week 10 of the FHSAA football season, the Jackets have produced a 7-1 record (3-0 District 4 6A).  With wins against Pedro Menendez, Creekside, Melbourne, Bartram Trail, Englewood, Ed White and Nease High Schools, the Jackets have outscored their opponents 296-64.  The Jackets defense is currently allowing a stingy 161 yards of offense per game (#5 overall in NE FLA), while the offense has respectfully gained an average of 379 yards per game (#9 overall).  The Jackets only loss on the season occurred for the first game in a very close 21-23 loss to Baker County HS (5A), currently 8-0.

St. Augustine High School Junior Quarterback Austin Reed, #14, has progressed well though the first 8 games of the season.  In addition to the quarterback responsibilities, Austin has served as the teams placeholder for field goals and extra points for kicker Elijah Ryan.  Check out some of the game photo’s and click HERE to se Austin’s mid-season highlights provided by Hudl.com.
