On Thursday, September 18th, the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets Junior Varsity football team defeated the Bartram Trail Bears JV 12-6, in a very tough defensive game for both teams. Controlling the ball for most of the first half of the game, the St. Augustine Jackets got the first touchdown on a short run by sophomore running back Martrell Story, #9. The Jackets were without a kicker and had to try to convert extra points by running plays from scrimmage, instead kicking. After missing the extra point play attempt, the Jackets led 6-0. The Jackets continued the control of the ball in the second quarter and marched down the field with a strong running game led by Storey and Varius Woodard – #4, and a 22 yard pass from quarterback Austin Reed – #7, to Karim Brown – #8, to get the ball into scoring position inside the Bears 5 yard line. Jackets quarterback Austin Reed – #7, hit his tight end on a pass running a bench route to increase the score to 12-0 to end the half.

The Jackets were unable to get any 2nd half points on offense, as the defense had to hold back the Bears offense on a late drive in the 4th quarter to win the game 12-6, and increase the St. Augustine High School Yellow Jackets JV record to 3-0 on the young season. Coming into the game, both teams were undefeated with the Panthers averaging 36 points per game on offense and allowing only 9 points per game on defense. The Jackets scored touchdowns on their first two drives due to a strong running game from Martrell Storey and Varius Woodard and a very efficient passing game lead by quarterback Austin Reed, #7, to take a 14-0 lead. The Jackets defense had to overcome several second quarter penalties and make a strong defensive stand on a Panthers 1st and goal from the Jackets 3 yard line to hold the Panthers to only a field goal in the first half.
The Ridgeview Panthers made the game close after a Jackets turnover resulted in a long Panthers drive for a touchdown to cut the Jackets lead to 14-10. On the Jackets next possession, quarterback Austin Reed, #7, engineered a long, time consuming drive that ended in a 10 yard touchdown pass from Reed to Varius Woodard, #4, that increased the Jackets lead to 20-10. The St. Augustine defense continued to perform well holding the Panthers on their last offensive drive. A playoff loss ends the season for Austin Reed, #7, and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team
On Wednesday, October 30th, Austin Reed, #7, and his Sebastian Middle School Eagles (#2) football teammates played in the first round of the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association (SJMSAA) playoffs and lost against the Landrum Middle School Lions (#3). Landrum spent no time in the game getting on the scoreboard from the first play from scrimmage using a trick play. After the initial score, the Sebastian Eagles seemed to be playing catch up for most of the remainder of the game. Though Sebastian was able to move the ball on offense and put together good scoring drives, it seemed the overpowering Landrum Lions answered on the scoreboard ever time they had to. The game ended in a loss for the Sebastian Eagles 35 – 20 and an end to their season as the Landrum Lions advance to the Conference finals.
Playing at Quarterback and Middle Linebacker, Austin Reed, #7, played an exceptional game at quarterback completing 5 for 7 passing attempts for 85 yards and rushed for two touchdowns on the night. He would have been perfect in the passing game, but a couple of big drops on accurate passes brought his completion numbers down. Austin Reed, #7, also played an exceptional game at Middle Linebacker making several tackles during the game, including a game ending tackle when Austin fractured his right throwing hand early in the 4th quarter while tackling the Landrum running back at the line of scrimmage.
Austin’s injury will have him out for a short 4 – 6 weeks. During this time will be adjusting his workouts and preparing his body for the long off season workouts needed to prepare himself for the upcoming High School football season at St. Augustine High School. Please see the following videos from Wednesday nights game against the Landrum Middle School Lions football team.

On Thursday, October 24th, the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team finished off their regular season 7 – 1 against their local rivals The Gamble Rodgers Middle School Stingrays in a 32 – 6 win in a game that featured limited play by many of the Eagles regular starters. Already clinching the #2 position in the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association (SJMSAA) standings, the Eagles played a very conservatively called game and gave many non-starters the opportunity to get valuable game play experience. Everyone shared time on the field and enjoyed the seventh win of the season heading into the playoffs as the #2 seeded team to play the #3 seeded Landrum Middle School Lions on Wednesday, October 30th at 5:00 p.m. at Plantation Park in Jullington Creek.

It took four years and about six tries, but on Thursday, October 17th, Quarterback Austin Reed, #7, and his Sebastian Middle School Eagles football teammates beat another cross town rival, the Pacetti Bay Middle School Wildcats, in a wild game that wasn’t decided until the last play. Leading 22 – 12 in the 4th quarter, the Eagles had a critical turnover that gave the ball to the Wildcats at their own 25 yard line. They took advantage of this opportunity to drive the length of the field and score a touchdown and make the two conversion to make the game 22 – 20. After the Eagles were forced to punt on their next drive, Pacetti Bay drove the length of the field again only to be held at the 10 yard line where the quarterback fumbled the ball on the snap and it was recovered by the Eagles with time expiring.
The Sebastian Middle School Eagles played an unusually conservative offensive game that showed in the limited 8 attempts that quarterback Austin Reed, #7, made. He completed 4 of the attempts for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns (115.6 rating). Austin also played middle linebacker on defense recording several tackles. With the win, the Eagles improved to 6 – 1 on the season and locked up 2nd place in the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association conference going into the playoffs. The next game for Austin Reed, #7, and the rest of the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team is Thursday, October 24th at 6:00 p.m. at Pomar Park in St. Augustine.

The Lions had a chance with one last play at the end of the game when they completed a short pass that the receiver ran down to the Sebastian 2 yard line as time expired, giving the Sebastian Middle School Eagles the 16 – 15 win and improving their record to 4 – 1 on the season.

This time by a score of 34 – 6 to improve to 3 – 1 on the season and putting Sebastian into a three way tie for 2nd place in the County. Playing an efficient game at quarterback, Austin Reed, #7, went 5 – 10 passing for 51 yard, 2 TD’s and 1 INT. There were several highlights with the passing game during the game, with a couple featured in the attached videos, and one pass that was dropped that could have resulted in a 65 yard touchdown. The offense pretty much dominated the line of scrimmage and total yards for the game resulting in a productive day for all who got a chance to run the ball.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Eagles dominated allowing only one touchdown coming on a blown coverage by the defensive secondary resulting in a 70 yard touchdown pass for Murray. Austin played well recording 5 tackles during the game and continued his leadership as defensive captain and play caller.

The last game for Austin Reed, #7, and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team was held on September 12th against the Gamble Rodgers Middle School Stingrays football team at the football stadium at Pedro Menendez High School. The Eagles proved too powerful against their cross town rivals winning by a score of 38 – 8 and improving their record to 2 – 1 on the season. Sebastian dominated the game early as the Eagles scored on their first play of the game with a 50 yard run, and then four more times in the first half on a punt return, goal-line run, and two touchdown passes by quarterback Austin Reed, #7, for 45 yards and 20 yards. Austin Reed, #7, and the Sebastian Eagles defeat the defending champs Murray Bulldogs
On Thursday afternoon, September 5th, Austin Reed, quarterback #7, lead his Sebastian Middle School (St. Augustine) Eagles football team to a stunning first time victory over the two time defending St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association (SJMSAA) champions, the Murray Middle School Bulldogs football team 16 – 0. The Bulldogs came into the game heavily favored as the two time SJMSAA defending champions and not having lost a game since the 2010 season. The game was a well played game by both the offense and the defense of the Eagles as they dominated both the defensive and offensive line of scrimmage, out-gained the Bulldogs in rushing and passing, and did not turn the ball over one time to Murray’s two turnovers.
Austin Reed, #7, playing quarterback scored the first points of the game by connecting on a 28 yard touchdown pass to Kareem Brown towards the end of the first half (see video below). During the scoring drive, Austin complete three straight passes for 46 yards and finished the game going 5 – 7 passing, 1 TD and 113 yards passing (153 QB rating) for his third consecutive game passing over 100 yards.

Game 1: Austin Reed and the Sebastian Eagles football team lose a close season opener to the Swiss Point Raiders.
The opening of the regular football season for the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association started with a game between the Sebastian Middle School Eagles and the Switzerland Point Raiders football teams. The game ended in a 6 – 19 loss for the Eagles, but the game was a lot closer than the score shows. The Raiders scored with a long opening drive to take a 6 – 0 lead. The Eagles then drove the field and scored, only to have the touchdown called back for an alleged holding call, the drive then failed to produce a score. Later in the second quarter, Quarterback Austin Reed, #7 for the Eagles, connected with his leading receiver Kareem Brown on a 70 yard touchdown pass to tie the score at 6 – 6.
The Eagles had a chance to take the lead in the third quarter when Austin Reed hit his slot receiver on the goal line for what appeared to be the go-ahead touchdown, but the ball came out of the receivers hands just prior to crossing the goal line. Soon after, the Raiders drove the length of the field and scored to go ahead 6 – 13. The Eagles final drive failed on the Raiders 15 yard line late in the 4th quarter. The final score for the Raiders came against the back-ups for the Eagles who substituted the starters on the Raiders final drive.
Austin Reed, #7, played both quarterback and middle linebacker for the Sebastian Middle School Eagles throwing 6 completions on 11 passing attempts, for 120 yards. On defense he recorded 3 solo tackles and shared many other tackles with his defensive teammates.
Austin Reed helps lead Sebastian Middle School to a post season bowl win over Landrum Middle School
We are getting this Blog post out a little bit after the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association Bowl Games held this past weekend on November 10th when the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team played the Landrum Middle School Lions football team (second squad). The final game of the season ended with a 22 – 8 victory for the Eagles (3 – 7) who dominated both sides of the ball most of the game. The Lions only score occurred when the Eagles, leading 22- 0, respectfully allowed a special scoring play for a dedicated player on the Lions football team.
Notable plays were many. However, we have included a couple of defensive tackles that Austin Reed made during the game, as well as a great throw and catch by Austin to his top receiver Andre Robinson who gained considerable yards after the catch. There is also another touchdown run by Austin on the goal line with a Quarterback Sneak. Austin finished the game on defense being involved with 10 tackles, one fumble recovery, and completed 1 – 2 passing at quarterback (not a big passing week).
Sebastian Middle School loses to Landrum Middle School in a well fought game
We are catching up on the website for Austin Reed and his football play for the 2012 Sebastian Middle School Eagles football season. On October 25th, the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team lost to the Landrum Middle School Lions in a game who’s score does not indicate how competitive the game really was. The final of the game was 34 – 12 in favor of the Landrum Middle School Lions football team. However, the Sebastian Middle School Eagles, led by Austin Reed (#7) at Quarterback and Middle Linebacker, played an excellent football game for all four quarters of football.
There is a lot more information to come on the season and will be posted soon. Until then, the following videos are from the game against the Landrum Middle School Lions football team. They feature Austin scoring on a quarterback sneak from the three yard line, Austin completing a pass to his halfback Andre Robinson for a 50 yard catch and run gain, and two great defensive plays that Austin made at Middle Linebacker while chasing down the Landrum offensive players.
Fruit Cove Middle School flexes their strength against the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team.
On Thursday, October 18th, Austin Reed (#7) and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team faced the second place, 6 – 1 Fruit Cove Middle School Flyers football team. After the Flyers jumped out to a 7 – 0 lead in the first quarter, the Eagles played hard and did not allow another point until the middle of the third quarter. The Flyers finally wore down the Eagles defense and added an additional three touchdowns to end the game with 26 points. The Eagles refused to give up gaining a 5 yard touchdown run by Andre Robinson with time expiring in the game. The final score of the game was 26 – 6.
Austin played quarterback, middle linebacker and special teams during the game against Fruit Cove Middle School. There is also a video featuring a great blitz rush by Austin causing the quarterback for Fruit Cove to rush his pass and throw an interception to linebacker Sebastian Jones. I have also included a video of one of the best crack-back blocks I have seen in youth football. This occurred in the third quarter when running back Andre Robinson reversed the field and Thomas Adkinson (#77 – Red) assists the run blocking with a crack-back block and absolutely crushes #64 for Fruit Cove. The next game for the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team is this Thursday, October 25th @ 4:30 p.m. at Landrum Middle School located in Ponte Vedra, FL.
The Pacetti Bay Middle School Wildcats football team take down Austin Reed and the Sebastian Middle School Eagles from St. Augustine
Well, this certainly wasn’t the result the coaching staff, Austin Reed (#7) and the rest of the players from the Sebastian Middle School Eagles football team from St. Augustine, FL wanted following their game against the Pacetti Bay Wildcats football team. The 34 – 0 loss dose not show the fight the Eagles put up against their cross county nemesis at Nease High School Stadium, the former home of Quarterback Tim Tebow. Austin played quarterback, middle linebacker, and special teams during the game.
Highlights included in the following videos are a kickoff team coverage where Austin runs over the return blocker and runs down the field to make a tackle, a first down pass to Andre Robinson and a nice run to pick up a first down where Austin lines up at running back in a power formation. Other strong performances in the game were provided by Martrell Storey, RB (#9), who gained significant yardage as running back and Terrance Lovett, OL/DL (#55) who had an exceptional game blocking at left offensive guard and anchoring the middle of the defensive line. The next game is schedule for Thursday, October 18th against the Fruit Cove Middle School Flyers at Plantation Park in St. Johns, FL.

Summary of first two games for the Fall 2012
The first game of the 2012 season began with a Powerhouse match up in the St. Augustine High School Football Stadium against defending league champion Murray Middle School Bulldogs. The final score of the game (41 – 0) does not show how well the Sebastian Middle School football team and Austin played on offense. Austin started the game at running back and middle linebacker. While the explosive Murray offense scored all of their points on a limited number of plays, the offensive time of possession was dominated by the Sebastian Eagles. Austin ran 6 times for about 25 yards and had a couple of tackles on defense.
The second game of the season was on September 6th against the Liberty Pines Academy Wolfpack football team, who pulled off a 22 – 0 win in a rain soaked game that feature Austin playing Middle Linebacker on defense and running back on offense. Austin was moved to long snapper for the punt team to give his team an added edge with the long snap. Austin also relieved Trevor Stevens at Quarterback in the 4th quarter after Trevor suffered a back injury during the game and had to come out.
